About the department

General Medicine at Pragnya Hospitals, Medchal and Shadnagar

A good general physician looks at the whole person, not just one symptom. Our Department of General Medicine diagnoses and treats short-term illnesses such as fevers and infections, and helps you manage long-term conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and thyroid disorders.

Because our lab, imaging and specialists are under the same roof, we can investigate a problem quickly and involve the right specialist when needed, whether that is a pulmonologist for a chest infection or an endocrinologist for diabetes. After monsoon, our physicians see many cases of dengue, typhoid and viral fever, and admit patients who need IV fluids and close monitoring.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What does a general physician treat?

A general physician diagnoses and treats a wide range of adult health problems, from fevers, infections and stomach upsets to long-term conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and thyroid disorders, and refers you to a specialist when needed.

When should I see a doctor for a fever?

See a doctor if a fever lasts more than 3 days, is very high, or comes with a rash, bleeding, severe body pain, vomiting or confusion. These can be signs of dengue or other serious infections.

How often should a diabetes patient see the doctor?

Most people with diabetes should have a review and an HbA1c blood test about every 3 months, or as your doctor advises. More frequent visits may be needed when treatment is being adjusted.

Do you offer health check-ups?

Yes. Our physicians and lab offer preventive check-ups covering blood sugar, cholesterol, thyroid, kidney and liver function and more. Call us for available packages and preparation instructions.

Is general medicine available at Shadnagar?

Yes. General physician consultations are available at both our Medchal and Shadnagar branches.

Do I need to fast before my visit?

Only if blood tests such as fasting sugar or cholesterol are planned. In that case, avoid food for 8 to 12 hours beforehand; plain water is fine. Continue your regular medicines unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
